Editorial Reviews:

Smash & carve is a beautifully designed, well written book focusing on contact and direction! The sole purpose of the swing motion is to develop and perfect, to some degree, these two principle areas in your game. Even a good looking golf swing will be ineffective without a sound understanding of solid contact and predictable direction. Solid contact is based on 'divots' (the location of the divot and how it happens). Predictable direction is based on 'shaping the shot' (draw, hook, fade, slice) All golfers want to be pure ball-strikers and shot-makers, they just need to be shown. This book will show you how!

Smash & Carve is very unique for a variety of reasons, first of all the instruction will constantly lean toward the performance related movements in the golf swing, or the attack of the ball. These movements are; the downswing, impact, and follow through. Of course the set-up and backswing are discussed, but only with contact and direction in mind. If there is a problem in golf it would be the constant emphasis on swing fundamentals without much, if any, emphasis on ball-striking fundamentals. Most instructors seem to think that if the swing looks good, it will perform. This is not the case! Any player that hopes to continuously improve at golf must always be focusing on swing fundamentals in conjunction with ball-striking fundamentals. This book wants you to focus on ball-to-swing-learning, in other words always be aware of what you are trying to do with the ball, then use the appropriate swing fundamentals to build.

Smash & Carve Golf is 88 pages of to-the-point information (no wasted words). The beach has an ocean and beach theme through-out with a high percentage of the 135 photos and creative design taking place at Locarno beach in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The book is highlighted by lesson 3-direction, with a large tower (water depth indicator) in the low-tide as the target (no balls were left in the ocean). Right-to-left and left-to-right shots are shown, with curved graphic lines showing the flight of the ball, along with easy to follow instruction. The beautiful back-drop scenery is brought to life with high quality black and white photos through-out, with the inside front and back cover, in color with fold out flaps. The special design of this book coupled with the fun, easy to understand instruction, makes this a must-have for any caliber golfer.

Customer Reviews:

Best golf book May 18, 2008

Scott Minni has written the best dang golf book ever! This book has dramatically improved my game and scores to the point where I now regularly score in the mid seventies.

Without this book this would not be happening. Based upon the Hogan Swing, he eliminates the terrible basic misunderstandings like trying to get the irons "under" the ball, instead of pinching it by going down and through. Excellent book. I know of a golf nut who was buried with it! If you're going to hope to enjoy playng golf for a few years of your life or more, then order it right now. You will be thrilled at what Scott's book will do for you. Best golf book ever. It will really work.

This book was no Minni undertaking. Many years of experience shines through this book with great effectiveness and clarity. I will be heading to the driving range, immediately, to practice my new swing thoughts! The photos of Vancouver? Jericho Beach? provided an awesome visual backdrop and zen-like feel to the textual teachings. Well done!

If you golf, you must buy add this book to your repertoire.

ball striking Apr 27, 2000

Wonderful book, the pure essence of shot making. That elusive feeling one gets when he is "pinching the ball" into the turf is finally put into words. Centers on the art of shotmaking with irons specifically. Author is a Ben Hogan-George Knutson guy all the way. Would love to see a video on this.
